UltraCast xt is an ambient temperature curing, optically clear, solvent free epoxy coating/casting resin with excellent surface heat resistance up to 90 - 95°C. UltraCast is ASTM certified (D-4236).
UltraCast xtresin produces a high gloss, rigid and tough coating with good impact and abrasion resistance. The excellent optical clarity and viscosity makes it ideal for the following applications:
Sealing and coating of artwork/paintings made with acrylic paint, oil paint & watercolour paints
Sculptures and mould castings (up to 1000cc in volume)
Tabletops, bar counters and kitchen worktops
Penny floor and pigmented epoxy floor applications
Please be aware that if tints are used with UltraCastxt there is a chance colours could bleed into one another if poured next to each other, as the formula has a longer working time and is thinner than totalCAST art resin.
This resin system needs 7-10 days to reach maximum cured properties and temperature resistance. The addition of pigments (inks, powders and pastes) as well as other resin additives (resi-BLAST, silicone, lubricants, alcohol or solvents) will lower its temperature resistance, this is because pigment substances themselves have a very low temperature threshold.
The higher the addition rate of pigments & additives which are added or mixed into UltraCastxt, the more the thermal withstand of the cured mass is lowered and compromised. In this case, we recommend a final clear topcoat of UltraCastxtis applied on top of the pigmented layer to bolster its resistance against hot objects placed on it.
The mixing ratio must be accurately followed to achieve perfect results. It is not possible to change the ratio which would result in the resin not drying properly and lower mechanical properties.
The mixed components should be thoroughly stirred for 3-4 minutes to ensure an even consistency. Epoxy systems tend to heat up in a pot than as a thin film, only mix the amount needed for use within the pot life of the product.
The product can be applied by pouring from the mixing vessel or by brush or roller. This resin can be readily pigmented by the addition of any resin pigments sold in our online store. Adding a drop of resi-BLAST will aid in creating cells and lacing effects.
Difference between ArtResin, totalCAST and UltraCAST:
As compared to totalCAST and UltraCAST, ArtResin cures the softest, so we do not recommend using this for casting of small or thin objects.
ArtResin is less viscous (thinner) than totalCAST and more viscous (thicker) than UltraCAST. If you find UltraCAST too fluid and totalCAST too thick, this might be the right resin for you.
ArtResin has a longer working time than totalCAST, but a shorter working time than UltraCAST. If you find totalCAST cures too fast for you, we usually recommend using UltraCAST. However, if you find UltraCAST cures too slow, (which may cause colours to overlap and flow more as it takes longer to dry), this might be the right resin for you.
Similar to totalCAST, ArtResin is not resistant to high temperatures. UltraCAST would be the most suitable for making items required for the placement of very hot objects on its surface.

Health & Safety:
Although our resins are formulated with the most modern and safest epoxy chemicals available, all epoxy resins are chemicals and should be managed and handled with proactive safety hygiene and responsible care.
Always wear nitrile gloves (or use a specialist resin barrier cream)
Wear a respirator when sanding partially-cured resin
It is advisable to work in a well ventilated room
We advise the use of safety goggles
Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on skin wash with plenty of soap & water)
DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working
In case of eye contamination wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and consult medical advice immediately
Adding inks/paints/mica powder/glitter to epoxy resin will change its properties and may reduce its non-toxicity. If you use alcohol inks DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles, as alcohol is flammable.
