SmileStone™ is an opaque (white) water-based acrylic resin material ideal for casting jewellery, coasters, planters and other decorative products. Due to its stone-like texture, it is perfect for creating terrazzo and marble effects in your designs.
It is non-toxic, safe to use at home and contains no solvents or VOC’s. It has high UV and heat resistance (up to 120°C), making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use. In comparison to Jesmonite which has a short working time (of 3 to 5 minutes), SmileStone™ offers a user-friendly working time of 10 to 20 minutes.
If you are looking for an extra white base, we recommend getting SmileStone™ Extra White instead.
Apart from the working and curing time, SmileStone™ also differs from Jesmonite in terms of appearance. Refer to the photo in this listing for a visual comparison between SmileStone™, SmileStone™ Extra White and Jesmonite.

Note: The coasters and pendants shown in the photos are made by us using SmileStone™. They are for illustration purposes and not included in the kit.
Can you recommend any other materials or tools that I may need for terrazzo or marble art projects?
Please take note that you will need a weighing scale to accurately measure the amount of SmileStone™ you need to use, which is not included in the kit.
To colour SmileStone™, we recommend using our SmileStone Pigments or Artist Powder Pigments. You can get the SmileStone Pigments individually or in a Set of 12 colours. You can also get the Artist Powder Pigments individually or in a Set of 12 Basic colours, Set of 12 Earth Tone colours or the full Set of 30 colours. Alternatively, you may consider getting our SmileStone™ Basic starter kit which comes with 6 powder pigments.
SmileStone™ liquid and powder are best mixed with our high-shear mixing blade (fixed onto a hand drill). Mixing SmileStone™ with a blade will help to reduce the formation of air bubbles and ensure that the mix is smooth and free from lumps. The mixing blade is also essential for proper dispersion of powder pigments into the mixture. Improper dispersion of pigment often results in a mottled (spotted) look.
We recommend sealing and waterproofing your artworks with our non-toxic food grade beeswax sealer, especially if you are planning to use them as coasters. You may get our thick silicone moulds specially designed for casting terrazzo coasters. You can also seal your artworks with SmileStone acrylic sealer.
If you are planning to make terrazzo patterns, you may add some crushed glass for a cool texture.
A pestle and mortar is always handy to break up your terrazzo chips into smaller pieces. You will also need a set of coarse and fine sandpaper to sand your casts to reveal the terrazzo patterns. Alternatively, you may consider getting our Terrazzo & Marble Coaster and Terrazzo & Marble Jewellery starter kits.
