SmileStone™ Extra White is an opaque, extra white water-based acrylic resin material ideal for casting jewellery, coasters, planters and other decorative products. Due to its stone-like texture, it is perfect for creating terrazzo and marble effects in your designs.
It is non-toxic, safe to use at home and contains no solvents or VOC’s. It has high UV and heat resistance (up to 120°C), making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use. SmileStone™ Extra White offers a moderate working time of 8 to 10 minutes.
The extra white base makes it the ideal choice for projects where an extra white colour or pastel colours are desired. To create a pastel look, simply add a bit of colour pigment. While it may not be ideal for creating very intense colours, you can add more pigment (but no more than 5% of the mixing base by weight) to increase the colour intensity.
Refer to the photo in this listing for a visual comparison between SmileStone™, SmileStone™ Extra White and Jesmonite.
Apart from the working / curing time and appearance,
SmileStone™ Extra White also has a lower viscosity (more fluid) as compared to
SmileStone™ and Jesmonite.
Note: The coasters and pendants shown in the photos are made by us using SmileStone™ Extra White. They are for illustration purposes and not included in the kit.
Can you recommend any other materials or tools that I may need for terrazzo or marble art projects?
Please take note that you will need a weighing scale to accurately measure the amount of SmileStone™ Extra White you need to use, which is not included in the kit.
To colour SmileStone™ Extra White, we recommend using our Artist Powder Pigments. You can get them individually or in a Set of 12 Basic colours, Set of 12 Earth Tone colours or the full Set of 30 colours. Alternatively, you may consider getting our SmileStone™ Basic starter kit (but take note this is not the Extra White version) which comes with 6 powder pigments.
SmileStone™ Extra White liquid and powder are best mixed with our high-shear mixing blade (fixed onto a hand drill). Mixing SmileStone™ Extra White with a blade will help to reduce the formation of air bubbles and ensure that the mix is smooth and free from lumps. The mixing blade is also essential for proper dispersion of powder pigments into the mixture. Improper dispersion of pigment often results in a mottled (spotted) look.
We recommend sealing and waterproofing your artworks with our non-toxic food grade beeswax sealant, especially if you are planning to use them as coasters. You may get our thick silicone moulds specially designed for casting terrazzo coasters.
If you are planning to make terrazzo patterns, you may add some crushed glass for a cool texture.
A pestle and mortar is always handy to break up your terrazzo chips into smaller pieces. You will also need a set of coarse and fine sandpaper to sand your casts to reveal the terrazzo patterns. Alternatively, you may consider getting our Terrazzo & Marble Coaster and Terrazzo & Marble Jewellery starter kits (but take note this is not the Extra White version).
SmileStone™ Extra White has an infinite shelf life, as long as you keep the containers air-tight and stored it in a cool, dry environment.
